education and training needs in the City of Toronto.

Community Access Programs (CAPs)
Community Access Programs provide affordable public access to the Internet and the skills required to use it effectively.

Community Economic development
Programs that promote or build improvements in social, economic and health conditions
in a particular community or neighbourhood.

Employment Assessment Centres
Employment assessment, counselling and referral for persons returning to work.

Employment Resource Centres
Centres that provide assistance for people looking for jobs, career direction
or starting their own business. May provide job posting boards, resume services
or access to the Internet for job searches as well as free or low cost access
to computers, telephones, fax machines and photocopying. Business directories,
job search materials, and labour market information may also be available.

English as a second language (ESL)
Classes for people learning English as a second language.

Foreign-trained professionals
Specialized services for foreign-trained professionals focusing on job search
and finding work in their occupation or a related field. Information about regulation,
credential assessment, licensing bodies, Canadian work experience (including
mentoring), work placement and volunteer opportunities is provided.

Service Canada
Service Canada offices provide services to employers, unemployed and underemployed people. Services include access to job banks and labour market
information. They also have applications for social insurance numbers and for
income security programs (such as Employment Insurance and the Canada Pension
Plan).

International credentials
Services for people who want to know how to get their foreign educational or
occupational credentials assessed to determine Canadian equivalency for employment
purposes. Includes organizations that, for a fee, will provide credential assessment

Job Connect
Job Connect programs provide walk-in services and general resources for people
seeking employment, career direction, or information about starting their own
business.

Job Finding Clubs
Job Finding Clubs (JFCs) are job search workshops that run for intensive three-week
sessions. They are run by community-based organizations, private sector groups,
and public service organizations. Most JFCs focus their programs on a particular
community, skill-set, or industry.

Job search training
Job preparation training in skills such as resume writing, interviewing, punctuality
and workplace behaviour.

Job Search Workshops
Job Search Workshops are condensed three- or four-day workshops for job ready
newcomers who are legally entitled to work in Canada. They focus on job search
techniques and on accessing labour market information.

Literacy
Literacy issues and instruction including first language literacy programs for those whose first language is not English.

Mental health
Employment, education and training services that focus on meeting the needs
of consumers of mental health services. Services may include vocational assessment,
training, support, job trials, information and referral.

Physical disabilities
Employment, education and training services that focus on meeting the needs
of people with physical disabilities.

Older workers
Programs for older workers deal with the needs of experienced workers, usually
those 45 years and over. Typical program components include group support, computer
basics and the benefits of having transferable skills in the labour market.

Self employment and entrepreneurship
Programs for people who want to start their own businesses.

Vocational counselling
Vocational and career counselling to determine employment preferences, experience
